Background: Currently, every 9 months we consume what the planet’s ecology can provide sustainably in any given year (Global Footprint Network, 2011). The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) estimated that we need to increase food supplies by 70% by 2050 if we are to feed a population of 9 billion (FAO, 2009). This challenge is compounded with constraints of available water, land, chemicals and fertilizer and projected natural ecosystems to be converted for urbanization and industrialization. Green Revolution of the 1960s and beyond point to significant trade-offs in resource use, input use and energy flows resulting in liquidating resource stocks and accumulating CO2 and other polluting agents in the biosphere. So, the challenge is to raise yields fast enough using methods that reduce the environmental footprint of agriculture substantially.  In terms of tropical Agriculture, India cannot be silent to these issues as we add substantially to the world cereal production and must identify areas of eco –efficiency in agriculture.  Nitrogen and water use efficiencies must increase by more than 50% in some of the world’s major crop production systems; farming systems must be improved to reverse current trends of soil degradation and net energy yields must double.
Scientists are professing eco-efficient agriculture increases productivity while reducing environmental impacts. Eco-efficient agriculture must meet and harmonize economic, social, and environmental needs of the rural poor by being profitable, competitive, sustainable, and resilient and gender compliant. Humans have always attempted to raise the efficiency of agro-ecosystems, aiming to harvest more per unit of input, mainly water, nutrients, energy, or agrobiodiversity. “Eco-efficiency” go with the simplistic idea of “producing more with less.” Both high-input intensive agriculture and low-input agriculture need to evolve based on agro-ecological principles. We need to consider eco-efficiency beyond the farm and extend concepts to include the whole food chain.
During the last four decades recognition of unsustainable resource use and the increasing concerns have prompted the approaches to optimize resource use, such as minimum tillage, precision agriculture, plant breeding for input use efficiency (water, nitrogen), marker-assisted breeding, and transgenic crops and animals and all other interventions that pollute less. Ecosystem services can also be considered with desired outputs, such as services around biodiversity conservation, carbon sequestration, freshwater flows, pest management, or pollination services by means of crop, tree and animal components and interactions. Integrated crop, livestock, and forestry systems and allied enterprises are economically and technically feasible in addition to producing food of higher biological value in meat, milk and fish, cultivated pasture provides other important environmental benefits, including long-term ground cover, carbon fixation, increases in soil organic matter content, and reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases. Measures could extend beyond food quantity and include measures of quality in meeting nutritional needs.. At the farmers’ level, policy measures and market interventions that provide incentives for development and adoption of more diverse eco-efficient are important issues.
                     With this backdrop the Crop and Weed Society (CWSS), BCKV invites relevant contributions from the agriculture scientists, scholars, technologists, the industry and policy planners in its call for the International Seminar on ECO – EFFICIENCY IN AGRICULTURE & ALLIED RESEARCH (EEAAR 17)”.Contributions are invited as extended summary for both oral and poster presentations on the following themes related to Agriculture; Horticulture, Ag. Engineering, Biotechnology, ITK, Economics, Fisheries, Animal Sciences, Dairy Technology and all other allied sectors including supporting policies.

          7)    Interface with Scientists of University and Government, Research students and Farmers with Corporate Officers

Ø The Registration fee includes Kits, Lunch (three days) and Dinner (only two days) and Local Transport during the Symposium

Extended Summary: Title, Authors Name(s) marking the Presenter, Institution or Corresponding Address (Arial, Font 11 and Spacing 1.5) followed by  Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results & Discussion, Recommendation 2 -3 lines and 1-2 References with 1-2 Tables and 1-2 Figures (Total 1000 words; Arial with Font 10 & Spacing 1.15 ).
Publication of Full paper: Registered delegates may submit their full length paper for publication in the Society publishing “Journal of Crop and Weed (ISSN 91746315, NAAS ranking 3.59 (applied for further upgrade) following the format and review process of the journal and paying a minimum processing fee of  500 / $ 100 only
Poster presentation : The size of the poster will be 80 cm (B) x 100 cm (L),briefly showing title, Authors Name & Address, Introduction with Objective,  Methodology, Results and Discussion (Tables, Figures and Photographs) and bulleted Summary or Conclusion. The poster shall be attractive with appropriate colour scheme so that the content is readable from a distance of at least one meter.

 LOCATION DETAILS

ØSymposium site: The Kalyani is situated at 220 57/ N latitude and 88020’E longitude with an altitude of 9.75 m above mean sea level. It is 50 km from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport, Kolkata and also same distance from Howrah / Sealdah Railway Station, Kolkata. From Bandel Railway Station (Howrah main line) it is only 20 km while from Kalyani Railway Station (Sealdah main line) only 3 km. Farmers’ Academy & Convention Centre (FACC), previously Lake Hall is situated in the south eastern side of Kalyani municipality office, Kalyani Court, Kalyani Stadium and Kalyani Lake. Temperature is moderate with Maximum 300 Celsius and Minimum 150 Celsius. Climate is comfortable neither too cool nor too hot. Simple woolen garments are sufficient.

ØAccommodation: Conference site FACC and Local Hotels (AC): Accommodation will be arranged against advance booking only. The cost of rooms (AC) varied from  1000 - 7000 day-1 depending on suit types. All are double bedded.

Ø Field trips:  The full day field trips offered to delegates to three different places. These are optional and at an additional cost as indicated in proforma for field trips. All trips start at 8:00 am. Please arrive at Conference venue 15 minutes before the departure time. Transport will be provided from respective Hotels/Guest Houses. All trips are subject to minimum numbers (at least 30). There is choice of three different types of field trips. Please choose any one in the form given below:

Kolkata is almost 50 Km away from the conference site, Kalyani. There are many site seen and some important are The Victoria Memorial, Eden Gardens, Birla Planetarium, Kalighat Temple, Nakhoda Masjid,  Alipur Zoo etc all within the smart city Kolkata.
